Contact Lenses
Contact lenses provide an excellent alternative to wearing glasses for almost any prescription. New developments in technology now enable us to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness as well as astigmatism and presbyopia.
Advancements in lens materials mean contact lenses are much healthier for the eyes than they were before, offering higher breathability and less dehydration. Technological progression has provided countless new contact lens designs to choose from with various disposal intervals to suit your lifestyle as follows:
- Spherical lenses – correct myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (longsightedness)
- Bifocal and multifocal lenses – contain different zones for near and far vision (to correct presbyopia)
- Toric lenses – correct astigmatism
- Disposable lenses – fortnightly or monthly
- Daily disposable lenses – discard after single use (no need for storing or cleaning solutions)
- Extended wear lenses – up to 30 consecutive days of wear without removal
Many types of contact lenses are also available in colours that can enhance or change your eye colour. We can also order custom made contact lenses to suit specific eye conditions such as Keratoconus.
As everyone reacts differently to various lens materials and cleaning solutions, there can be some trial and error involved in the fitting process to find what best suits each patient. First time contact lens wearers will need to be scheduled in for an initial ocular health check, then a fitting appointment and an aftercare consultation to check the ocular health again following a sequential wearing pattern.
The prescription and lens parameters can be successfully finalized after this point. Contact lens consultations are not covered by Medicare unless the corrective prescription is over +/-5.00 dioptres, or an ocular condition requires contact lenses to be worn.
Whether for sports, socialising, full time wear or cosmetics, our Optometrists will take the time to find the best contact lenses to suit your lifestyle and vision needs.
